Yes, yes and yes I know. It’s been a while. But we back and praying for more consistency and mercy over here.
This blog post is not sponsored by TD Jakes, but it is inspired by his song ‘Your Majesty’. I’m giving meine mutter full credit (even if my parents mutually agreed on CD choices 💿), for always giving me and my sisters something to listen to, dance to and fall asleep to in the car on the way back from anything and everything.
Recently they were both watching Redeemed’s Holy Ghost Service, and I became glued to the worship at the end. Even excited at the fact that I recognised half of the performers and not just the songs.
At the time I first heard the song ‘Your Majesty’ I had no understanding of Psalm 24, I just thought it sounded cool. After reciting the Psalm, the song is about crowning God. By crowning, and then bowing to God, we then truly recognise him as Royalty. Majesty. Reverencing him. 👑
Reverence /ˈrɛv(ə)rəns/
- a deep respect
1 The earth is the Lord’s, and all its fullness,
The world and those who dwell therein.
2 For He has founded it upon the seas,
And established it upon the waters.
The Psalm starts off with quite literally how we all kicked off at the Stadia de Genesis 😮💨. Matthew 4 may have had the devil talking like he owns this world, but Jesus’ resurrection (John 14:30) made sure there’s no denying.
can't be submitting to a lower case g
3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.
I’ve been to many places, I’ve seen so many faces. But nothing compares to the hill of the Lord. Nothing else matters, nothing in this world will do but his holy place.
David is posing a question (v3) he already knows the answer to (v4). We know clean heart is mentioned throughout the bible as a requirement for true repentance, and idolatry and deceit are also both common sins.
David wasn’t perfect at all, flawed and loved gyal too much.
But so am I, so I can’t chat about that. What I can chat about is fact that when you do submit to him make sure nobody in this world is above him, including yourself. To get to the top, you got to recognise the top isn’t you.
5 He shall receive blessing from the Lord,
And righteousness from the God of his salvation.
6 This is Jacob, the generation of those who seek Him,
Who seek Your face. Selah
Now you’ve made it, who doesn’t love a blessing? Even those who don’t believe will say ‘bless you’, so even better getting a fresh one from the Lord himself.
Sometimes I feel like heaven will be like getting a fresh wet towel when you arrive in a new country. The timing be so perfect.
Righteousness is what we want. Jacob literally risked his brother’s relationship to receive a blessing from his father.
Seeking God is needed more than ever, because the devil is doing everything to make you look everywhere else.
7&9 Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in.
It took me a while to get up to speed with one of the most underrated tv shows of all time – The Wire. But there’s a character who like many on the series was complicated, his presence whenever he walked into enemy territory sent chills. He looked out for his people, and was fearless as he strolled knowingly into his opps ends. On a mission. On a mazza. You didn’t even need to know him personally to know who he was.
Scholars suggest that this was written at the time the Ark pulled up in the city of Zion, which would provide more visuals to the words of gates and doors. Or it could be an early preview to Jesus’ arrival (second one). Ultimately this starts off the procession that gets everyone’s attention and unlike Omar, most people want to be around to see it.
10 Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,
He is the King of glory. Selah
Sabaoth ˈsabeɪɒθ,səˈbeɪɒθ,ˈsabeɪəʊθ/
- The hosts (multitude) of heaven
- a militant army, ready to fight
Another song of worship inspired by P24 is by the blessed Nathaniel Bassey – Yahweh Sabaoth.
Jehovah🫱🏾🫲🏿Yahweh. You may have heard of Sabaoth more with Jehovah, as it’s probably hanging on your religious auntie’s wall somewhere with all the other names of Jehovah.
Hosts is the primary definition of Sabaoth, making Jehovah Sabaoth – The Lord of hosts. TLOF is a ruler of multitudes.
My professional career always makes me always think about impact. And as humans we look at glory at how big it is, how much it was. So all of the angels, stars and superstars… he is Lord of them all.
8 Who is the King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle.
Hosts is referred to in the bible as the army of heaven, and our David was well known in the bible to be a leader of a pretty strong army. Some even called his army…
Mighty. 🥁
Yeah so swinging back to verse eight, David recognises God through his victories and triumphs. 1 Samuel 17:45 he calls upon the God of the armies of Israel. The militant aspect of God isn’t just about how much power he has, but what it’s capable of doing in practicality.
More like fatality for dem philistines still
Verses seven to ten almost feels like the opposite of an altar call, it’s not intimidating (unless you’re on the wrong side) but massively powerful.
This chapter is like an announcer hyping up the main event, the undisputed champion but it’s like this is THAT GUY. It gets you hyped for his presence, it rips away the worries you have because you realise his power simply will blow it away with one punch.
Deontay only needed one gbosa to put people down, well God only needed one breath to create wildlife, there’s levels mate.
