… he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
Mercy – compassion or forgiveness shown towards someone whom it is within one’s power to punish or harm.
I JUST NEED A LITTLE MERCEEHAYYYYYY
You ever put like, mad work into something and not only does it blow up in your face, but you’re end up in a worse position, leading you to a downward spiral?
You’ve ministered to dozens, or even hundreds of people. You’ve paid your tithes and your dues but your bank account has left you feeling blue. So you wish that you could sue the student finance of your life. Refunds and clues are now the scraps of the faith you still have, and you rue the moment you started the journey.
Your off the top lines need a wheel-up
I’ve had this song on loop. It’s the first tune I play the moment I realise that there’s a high chance of me not on time for my 10 to 5.
You start at 10? Bro you're chilling.
The tune is Mercy, by Jacob Banks. If you’ve noticed by now I genuinely have no preferred genre. The more I listen to it, the less it becomes about how it’s everyone else’s fault. Those carnal frustrations but now it’s more about spiritual elevation. Even though that wasn’t the song’s intention.
It led me to search into the greatest mercy possible. God’s.
he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done,
I wasn’t just baptised in holy water, I drank it. Downed it like a shot hoping to get away from any possible trial. I sang his lullabies. Melodies. Like a Symphony. Now can I get a little mercy?
Actually mate you was baptised in a swimming pool. Drank.
Nuh uh. That’s not how it works. See God didn’t send his son to die because he could dance for God like David, or the because she served him in controversy like Mary.
The same way you can’t earn your salvation is the same way you can’t earn mercy. But in our dire state we get desperate like a NBA trade deadline and scurry to bargain.
I’ll trade you 3 first round prayer sessions I did last week for some mercy on my assignment I have due on Friday.
Mercy isn’t about what you’ve done for God. It’s about what God has done for you.
I keep growing and you keep tearing me down
I’ve heard a similar message like this but singers, preachers have often spoken while I sit in the bad for your back plastic seats – ‘Demote yourself so that God can promote you.’ or…‘God has to break you, to mould you into what he wants’
And this isn’t about growth as a human, a brother or a boyfriend. Spiritual growth is where Titus focuses on.
David (1 Samuel) , Job (13) and Joseph (Genesis 39) are just three examples of people who served God, grew in stature yet were knocked down right when they were growing.
And it’s sort of when a setback hurts you the most. When you’re growing. It’s like when a footballer is running at great pace, feet leaping speedily like a deer.
Then out of nowhere a nasty slide tackle flies in and derails the potential. You feel as if you had something to lose.
Even Jesus was beaten and emotionally broken on his way to the cross. Although we’re never going to experience the pain and trauma he went through because of his salvation, but we still like him end up wondering why God has forsaken us.
God has to break you down to rebuild you . That will mean that even if you’re saved, you’ll got through the wire. Anything that pleases us, but displeases him has to go. It’s how he can then renew our spiritual mindset.
Mike Todd spoke about how even though God may love what you’re doing with the ministry, he will call you back for some alone time with him.
Which may require you to take a step back from whatever you’re doing, because he wants to make sure your faith in him is strong and you don’t become faithful to your craft, because that will only take you so far.
He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit
The washing of rebirth refers to the cleansing of your sins when you become born again. BEHOLD Old tings have passed away and you are now new in Christ through salvation. Just like salvation, God’s mercy is eternal and infinite.
And the renewal is by the Holy Spirit, which is what the Father left behind after Jesus resurrected and ascended back to heaven. To return and revive your fire for God.
I’ve been going through this 21 days plan on the bible app called ‘Renew Rebuild Restore’. It helped me to understand a bit more of what it means to rebuild even as a born again Christian.
And what makes this verse so interesting is that it practically breaks down God as the Holy Trinity: The Father, The Son & The Holy Spirit. Like a poetic justice of it all.
But It ain’t talking about dark rooms or perfumes. It’s about how mercy has always loomed in our lives and it’s literally happening right now as you’re reading this. It’s his mercy that we’re not being consumed by fire or being condemned for the cheeky liars that we are.
but because of His Mercy.
God is gracious and evermore he will be. I’m happy we are able to run to him in times of trouble but I have to aspire to not take his mercy for granted. His mercy is unmerited, unearned yet he still calls me his own.
And for that I am ever grateful.
Love it
