Well now it’s the start of a series I’ll start doing on this blog.

Ok, music groups, ghost-writers, rappers, mumble rappers. any poets or people who do spoken word. 

I’d love for this idea to grow to a point where I’m hearing their own interpretations of what they say on the mic, and what inspired them to record the track in the studio. It doesn’t matter if they’ve got a day or years of experience, good music is GOOD music and I’m curious to know more of it. Learn from the author, talking about the author of our faith.

It really doesn’t have to be a traditional gospel song that’s done in church, although the first episode will sort of fit into that stereotype. Power in this tune is no less though 🔥🔥. It’s great to praise God but there is other avenues to it. Everyone’s got a story of how they get to that point too, forged through music. And any suggestions of songs are welcome too.

FIRE!!!!!! I just had to say that. Sounds better in person.

This is a personal song, and yes there’s a 99% chance someone is listening to the song same time as you. But there’s a reason why this was written in first person. 

When someone sets a fire, they’re sparking a change into something, or God forbid, someone.

Fire is bright. It’s hot. It’s fearsome and it gets people’s attention. There’s no way something is burning in a uni kitchen, and it’s not sending the whole campus outside with their 👘 robes on.

And that’s what you want when you ask God to set a fire. You’re struggling in your faith and you’re not seeing God. Glasses ain’t in check 👓, and your spiritual life has hit the deck.

Some of the biggest brands, products, songs came from an idea. Something was set in that person’s mind to kickstart, to innovate or collaborate.

So when you roast 👉 a guy it’s something that’s innate, or when you score a banger on FIFA you can’t necessarily control how you celebrate.

But in this case God isn’t setting a ministry for you, because it’s not a skill you’re asking for. It’s the will to learn the skill. You can control a skill, you can’t control a will.

I can’t contain, I can’t control.

For many years I’d sit in church and struggle not to laugh at aunties, who start shouting after praise and worship is done. And then they start gyrating like a fish out of water because the spirit has sparked them. 🐟

For a while I actually believed that speaking in tongues is a language you learn, like there’s lessons for it like a French lesson with Miss Misere.

To contain and control is to limit. Yes the fire comes from within, but it’s not meant to stay within.

When I feel God it’s like a feeling that I can barely describe. It’s not that little light, it’s a very big one. All I want to let that energy out in whatever way I can. Unreal goosebumps.

Yet the biggest opponent you can face in life ain’t your mother with a slipper, the ‘friend’ that you’re secretly jealous of. Heck it’s actually not even the devil. It’s yourself.

Speaking of my mum, she told me a story of when I was a baby. I’d send her out of the bathroom so I can get undressed and dress up. Oblivious to the fact that I’d be butt-ass naked as she baths me.

We stop ourselves from reaching our potential. We pray for God to take over our lives but we’re getting changed so, ‘Can you go for a bit, don’t really want you to see this’.

So when the spirit hits you, you almost try to swallow it down because you don’t want to look crazy or too emotional.

Yeah all you big man that think crying in church is moist

The same way my mum has already seen me naked before, is the same way God has seen all your issues, your anxieties and worries. We’re stunting for no reason. Moving like our ancestors Adam & Eve did. 🌿

You don’t want to be able to control it. You can learn more about what you desire but you there’s no exam you can do to obtain the desire.

I don’t finish an exam and say I want to be a Marketer. I want to be a Marketer and that’s why I’m taking the exam, why I read the books.

If you can’t control God’s power, then that’s better for you. That way there’s no limit to what you can do, and Phil 4:13 can literally be fulfilled in your every day movements.

‘Cause I want more of You God, I want more of You God

The great Muhammad Ali said: ‘A champion is made of something they have deep inside them, they have to have to the skill and the will.’ 🥊

But the will must be stronger than the skill.

So as a Christian the skill comes in the gifts, the fruits of your ministry. Your ability to write lit blogs like RMWYA, or even success in your career, relationships etc.

But the will should surpass it all, because it will drive all those things forward. And that desire comes from wanting more of God.

Even though I’ve grown up in church from the day I was born, I didn’t have that burning desire to know God the more. And when I found God for myself it was a life-changing experience.

You want God to bring about brightness in your darkness. You want something hot to keep you on your toes because warm is stationary, and prone to temptation.

That procrastination is the devil

You want the fear of God in your chest-ases. To give you wisdom, knowledge, insight (Pro 9:10). You should want people to know that you’re on fire for God.

Quite often we don’t want to be seen as a ‘Church-girl’ or even a ‘Pastor’s son’ because it’s not cool. That’s why we are in the world but not of it. You’ll never be able to completely satisfy the world, even if you put up SHAQ level numbers.

Ask God to set a fire in you today as you listen to the song, and don’t fight it, this ain’t Infinity War. And don’t let a Thanos come and quench your fire either.

Desire him, love him and yearn for him. People will ask you for a million and nine things, but God only wants your praise.

Let God show you great and mighty things that you do not even know.
