He who finds a wife finds a good thing, and obtains favour from the Lord. – Proverbs 18:22
Summer is fast reaching its decline and for some people, this is the beginning of cuffing season. The season where people are more encouraged to tie themselves down in a relationship. It’s great to be in the right relationship, but it’s always going to be God’s own time. Not the timeline’s… time.
I’m 2 months deep into a ‘cuffing’ that has already added so much value into my life. I’m obviously a long way from actually making her my wife “officially”. But I believe God gave her to me. And now, I think I found her. I gotta date with a long-term purpose 🤷🏾♂️.
The man who finds a wife finds a treasure, and he receives favour from the Lord.
There’s this song where the only part I remember goes
“ I found my treasure in you”.
Now essentially there’s another that refers to treasure being God.
“My treasure… My priority… who can compare to you…”
God gave me her. So it’s treasures upon treasures right?
But back to the verse. Instead of ‘treasure’ it uses the word ‘good thing’. We kinda look down upon the word good in society nowadays like it’s a 6 but it’s no 10, err it’s good but it’s not great. But let me show you how good might be in with a shot of being the sweetest word used in the bible ever.
Yet in Genesis 1 verses 21, 25 and 31 while God was cooking up our world he referred to the stages of our creation as good. Later on in the bible the pure opposite of evil… (Romans 12:21) was good. When you do good you bare fruit (Matt 7:17).
I looked at the word ‘thing’, and thing isn’t plural. It does not represent multiple i.e every-thing. So essentially there’s more to life, than securing a wife.
This shows there is yet light at the end of the tunnel for those who either have not found one or those who have been single parenting. Both man and woman. There are plenty of good things you can do. (This one is my favourite though )
Because if you’re finding something or someone – it’s a link created that either never previously existed, or has not been evident for a considerable period of time. So if I lost my baby cousin and I found her an hour later hidden under a bench, or if I found the woman of my dreams in…
But to find a wife, she has to come to the realisation… it’s you too. 👀
Obtaining favour from in the Lord is in essence what churches that I’ve seen call ‘catching the anointing’. You’re in a higher place than what you was before. Growing up as an African, beside education one of the things that would turn an angry, disappointed mother into a happy one is.. you guessed it. Grandchildren.
Getting married is the key to that. And when the priest has said his bits, the whole atmosphere is lifted. They will go from ‘when will you leave Festus, when will you marry?’ to spraying you with abundance of blessings, dances and dollars (literally 💵). They’ll probably roll the red carpet for you.
How much more with God? What humans can give you is nothing compared to the grace and love and treasures of what God can do for you. Favour with the Lord brings a closer relationship with him, something that we should aspire to always. He likens to us more, the way Adam was initially with God. It’s what makes God want to bless us even more, reward us and spoil us for the children we are to him.
It’s not a do it or suffer into the abyss of hell situation however. Your boss won’t sack you because you didn’t pick up his favourite Iced double-shot skinny chai Latte with cream. But he will keep you in mind the next time he’s got a spare ticket to a huge boxing match.
I’m gonna scroll back to word find and connect it back with finding favour with God.
God places the woman there, it’s YOU that has to go find it. That’s why it says FIND. not given to, or collect or force. You cannot find something if it has fallen on your lap. If anything the thing found you fam .
There was this movie I watched called Ready Player One on a plane to a hot desert.
In the ‘beningning’ 
the protagonist (along with other gamers) had to find a key hidden in the map that allows him to meet with the creator of this virtual game world. Once he found how to win, the key was then given to him and he recieved a large sum of points and money. He flew up the leaderboard and was regarded as the cool guy around.
You ever notice that buzz, that 
when people get married? Everyone wants to be them, see them, enjoy with them. They want that sauce that couple has. They fall in love just off other people finding love in each other. They rush to take a selfie with them🤳. Bella Naija. Ovation. Instagram will light up with photos of the couple. They are the trending topic for the next month.
Before all the spraying of cash after a flash of shoki at Nigerian weddings, there’s some form of ceremony where the man asks his bride’s family for permission, and in turn the parents of the bride blesses not only the marriage, but their individual relationships with God even as they become one. Jacob battled with his own brother just to get blessings from his father, Isaac (Genesis 27)
But in this Ready Player One movie, there are other keys you must find before you have mastered it to the point of when you can now control your own ‘virtual destiny’. You find another key. I got the keys. More points. More favour. DJ Khaled? Another One.
Finding a wife is a good thing. There are other good things we can do to obtain even greater favour with God to the point where we are like David, a prime example of the levels we should be praising God with.
God wants marriage. He wants you to become one with someone that he has chosen for you. BUT he wants to see that effort first. He has placed things in our lives; our purpose, friends, careers, ministries, potential blessings and testimonies. Even before I was born.
Time to go and find it.
